Gwendolyn (Willis) Scott

Gwendolyn Ora Willis Scott, affectionately known as "Gwen", the oldest daughter of the late Johnnie Willis and Eunice Willis, was born February 17,1949 in Washington, DC. Her parents set the example of a loving strong Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Christian life and she remained a SDA until death. Gwendolyn utilized her many talents through government, military and educational positions, always rising to hold ranks of respect and duty. Her career in the Air Force led her to reside and travel from the Washington, DC metro area to Biloxi, Mississippi, San Francisco, California and other places across America. She was a mathematician. She would speak of learning to count money at a very early and tender age. She passed her love and knowledge of numbers not only to her children but onto the many students she taught for over 40+ years. Gwen never knew a stranger. She was a great conversationalist and loved to talk, laugh and joke around with friends and family. Her favorite topics of conversation were politics, current events, her grandchildren and children, and The Young and The Restless. She was a foster mother to many youth who needed a home. She had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and business savvy that led her to own several businesses. She was a constant and diligent worker. No job was too small or beneath her. She would often open a flea market stall to sell small wares not so much for the profit but to meet and fellowship with potential customers. She had many goals that included both education and travel. Two of her last accomplishments that she was very proud of was earning and receiving her MBA in Business and applying and receiving her first passport for traveling abroad. She is now at rest and awaiting the return of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her five children Raymond (Jeaniene) Hussie, Jabbar (Angela) Hussie, Chandi Carter, Wendell Tyler, and Robbie Tyler; seven grandchildren Chantelle Stewart, Natolya Hussie, Nieyanna Hussie, Jabbar Hussie, Jr, Jabrenee' Hussie, Miles Carter, and Samuel Carter; and a great-grandson Cairo Marcus; her two brothers Dr. Johnnie Willis and Harold Willis; her three sisters Antionette Willis, Tashea Cotton, and Linda Willis; and a host of other nephews, nieces and cousins To our dear mother and beloved sister, your acts of love, kindness and generosity shall live on through your offspring, family and friends.
