Jesse Parker

Jesse Parker was born in Pinetops, North Carolina, on November 16, 1928, to the late Alex and Lossie Parker. On Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the age of 84, Jesse went home to be with the Lord at Community Hospice of Washington, DC. Jesse was educated in the Pinetops, North Carolina Public School System. On September 19, 1964, Jesse married a very special young lady, Chessie Mae Morning, and moved her to Washington, DC, where he worked as a freight truck driver for many years before retiring in 1990. He later returned to work at Lewis Funeral Home and J. K. Johnson Funeral Home, P. A. as a driver and an all-around assistant. He was affectionately known as ?Mr. P.? to his coworkers, and will be remembered as being reliable and dependable. In 1972, Deacon Jesse Parker united with the New St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. Burruss, Sr., and was baptized by him the same year. He often told the story of how after he joined the church he changed his mind about being baptized and went and sat under a tree. It was there where Rev. Burruss came and found him and changed his life and took him to be baptized. He soon became Rev. Burruss Sr.'s right hand man. He made sure the church was opened, cleaned and ready for service even if it meant paying the Pastor's children to do it. When he was in town, he would often drive his 18 foot tracker trailer to bible study because he didn't want to miss it. In 1975, he was ordained as a Deacon. During his membership, he served as Chairman of Deacons and Trustee. He also was a member of the Male Chorus and Senior Saints Choir. He continued to serve faithfully on the Deacon Ministry until his death. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife Chessie Mae Morning-Parker; two daughters, Tracey and Michelle, son Emanuel; Godson Kimaro Boyd; five grandchildren Nathan, Taurean, Avyonnia, Kwimane and Joshua; great-grandchildren Treyshawn and Taurean, Jr.; mother-in-law Betty Blocker; brother and sister-in-laws Bobby, Brenda and Elsie Morning, of Washington, DC, Laura Ferguson of Temple Hills, MD;, Pauline Parker of Rocky Mount, NC, Evelyn Parker of Carmody Hills, MD and a sister, Mary Mercer of Rocky Mount, NC along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Jesse was preceded in death by three sisters Fannie, Sudie and Julia, four brothers Artic, Jimmie, Albert and Pete.
