Roderick Douglass Jones

May 19, 1952 ~ October 21, 2016 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Roderick D. Jones was the second of three children, and one of a set of twins born on May 19, 1952 to Nannie E. Jones and Frederick Jones, Sr. in Washington, DC. 

“Rod” as he was known to family and friends or “Twin”, was a lifelong resident of Alexandria, VA and educated through the Alexandria Public School System with enrollment at Charles Houston Elementary School, Parker Gray Secondary School and graduation from George Washington High School in 1970.  During high school, he was a member of the marching band.  He continued his education at the Northern Virginia Community College.

From 1972 to 1981, Roderick and Regina Keith Leigh were joined in marriage.  To their union was born Roderick's only child, Tisha Lenay Jones-Diggs.

Roderick began his employment career working several years as a Verizon lineman repair technician.  Later, he transitioned to a sector of substance abuse recovery and HIV prevention services through various employers which included Second Genesis, an outpatient rehabilitation treatment program for people who are severely afflicted by substance abuse addiction.  He was a dedicated worker and was admired and loved by his colleagues.

Rod was an extraordinary man with an infectious and memorable laugh demonstrated his true commitment to participation in active community service through his life journey of RECOVERY and HEALING—spending many years supporting the sobriety and recovery of others.  It was his continued practice through prayers of GUIDANCE and FORGIVENESS and his relationship with the Lord that he shall be remembered.

Roderick was embraced in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ for his final journey home on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Genesis Healthcare Convalescent Home in Waldorf, MD after a gradual decline in health.  He leaves behind to cherish his wonderful memory; his daughter, Tisha Lenay Jones-Diggs; stepdaughter, Letoya Jones; son-in-law, Kermit Diggs; three grandchildren, Isaiah Diggs, Isaac Diggs and Jordyn Jones; best friend and brother, Joseph Proctor and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Nannie Jones; brother, Darryl Jones, and twin brother, Frederick R. Jones, Jr.

He will be truly missed.
