Thomas Murray, Jr.

Mr. Thomas Murray Jr., affectionately known by some as ?Hand-dad?, was the son of the late Thomas Murray Sr. and Maggie Thompson Murray born on July 22, 1938 in Lone Star, SC. He was the second out of seven children. Thomas went home peacefully to be with the Lord on September 10, 2013 at home in his favorite recliner. Thomas attended St. John High School in Cameron, SC. He was a graduate of the class of 1956. He then relocated to Washington, D.C where he worked almost four decades as a service technician for C&P telephone, Bell Atlantic which we know today as Verizon. He was a dedicated, devoted worker, who prided himself on being on time even if it meant leaving an hour early for a ten minute car ride. After retirement he later worked for Prince Georges County Public Schools as a bus driver. Thanks to the rambunctious students of the new millennium, this job was very short lived. One of his favorite past-times was watching the Washington Redskins in his favorite chair. Win or lose he was an avid fan and an excellent couch coach. Thomas was joined in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Livingston on June 20, 1964. They were blessed with two children Tanya and Thomas Murray III. His brothers Monroe and Larry Murray and a sister Fairey Brown preceded him in death. He leaves to treasure many memories his children Tanya Mills Murray and Thomas Murray III (Bowie, MD), Marie Green (McDonough, GA). Four grandchildren De?Vaughn and Taylor Mills (Bowie, MD), Jai?Breon Murray (Pensacola, FL) and Damon Cundiff (McDonough, GA). Siblings Rose (late James Bristow) Bronx, NY, Deloris (Arthur Cox) and Margaret Murray (Bronx, NY). Thomas will be greatly missed. He was the oldest member of his family and always assumed the leadership role, giving great advice and always leading by example. His logic and wit could keep you engaged for hours. His passing has come unexpectedly and we know heaven is now an even better place, his physical presence with us will leave an insurmountable void. Our dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend is reunited with some of his favorite people. Especially one of the newest members to the kingdom, the late James Bristow. We find comfort in knowing that he lived his life in way that we all should aspire, with a kind, genuine, loving, giving and honest heart. You?ve earned your crown, nothing left to do but put it on.
