Reverend James Parson, 84, a local Elder, at Union Bethel AME Church, in Brandywine,
Maryland, was called home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Rev. Parson was born February 22, 1939, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Beatrice Parson and
Thomas W. Jones. He has been married to Mrs. Dierdra Parson for over 43 years.
Rev. Parson was a fiery prayer warrior dedicated servant, a wise counselor, and an enthusiastic
witness. Rev. Parson was labored and faithful member at Union Bethel AME Church where he
served as the Minister to Men, the lead of the Outreach Ministry, sang in the Men’s and Mass
Choirs, served as a Trustee, Armour Bearer to Pastor Harry L. Seawright, the Head of the
Hospitality Ministry and so many other ministries to help build the Kingdom of God.
He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1958. He retired
from the Naval Intelligence and National Intelligence Service (NIS) after many years of service.
James was a jack of all trades and worked many other jobs.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Dierdra Parson; sons, Kevin Powell (Sheila);
Lamont Parson (Clarissa); and Warren Gordon; daughters, Towanna Thompson and Rev. Debra
Grant; nephews, Sylvester Troy Parson (Suzette), Reggie Newbern: loving nieces, Dr. Alethia
Parson Speller (Kenneth), Pamela Owens, Karen Surratts, Marjorie Newbern; grandchildren,
great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family and many loving and
caring friends.
